I finally saw Fate of the Furious, which I guess is breaking box office records for some reason, and I started becoming a fan of the series since Fast Five. I was never into these movies until that one. I own the first one on DVD but I thought it was okay. But then, everyone was talking about Fast Five and how awesome it is and how I should see it. So a buddy and I went to go have a double feature one time. We were going to see Fast Five and Thor. Fast Five turned out to be so awesome, that we felt that Thor would never live up to it. I still hadn't seen Thor. I had seen all the Fast/Furious movies since Fast Five and I enjoy them as mindless action entertainment. So, of course, I went to see Fate of the Furious. With the absence of Paul Walker, will this movie survive without him? Well, as much as I liked Paul Walker, I never felt like he was the glue to hold the franchise together. They replaced him with Scott Eastwood and he was okay, but I think he needs another movie to grow his character. So if you hadn't seen the previews, it's basically about Dom (Vin Diesel) turning his back on his crew after Charlize Theron shows him something on a tablet for five seconds. Somehow, this makes him into Frankenstein evil and steals this weapon called God's Eye from The Rock and this lands The Rock in prison next to his old adversary Jason Statham. So now that Dom has turned his back on his "family", the crew now has to stop him and the evil Charlize Theron. First off, since Fast Five, these movies have Vin Diesel's ego all over this movie. I never really cared for Vin Diesel. He tries to make himself into such a badass (still don't believe he could kick The Rock's ass in Fast Five) and never once did I care if he turned his back on his crew. I knew that going in but I don't go into these movies for plot. I just want some awesome action. The climax definitely delivers. In fact, you can say that for all the movies since Fast Five, they never disappoint with the climax. From that ice chase to Jason Statham fighting bad guys while holding a baby, this is definitely a thrilling climax. To me, the best parts about this movie is Jason Statham and The Rock. They steal every scene they are in and it's even better when those two are on screen together. I hear they are getting their own spin-off and that has potential to be better than any Fast and Furious movie ever. From what I hear, this movie is breaking records. They have two more movies before they end the franchise but if it keeps making money like this, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes further than that. What else does Vin Diesel have anyway? XXX? Riddick? The Last Witchhunter, maybe? He is looking rather rugged in this movie, though. Anyway, these are good movies to kick off the summer and I'm looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 next! Yo Void! I saw this movie in a little privately owned theater by the Wayne State University. The theater itself was very small and it was only playing two movies: Fate of the Furious and this. They sat us in this small screening room with a bunch of chairs that looked straight out of a garage sale and a couch in the front row. Jeff and I sat on the couch. This is one of the better horror films I've seen. It starts out with some girl screaming out of the house and gets blown down by a shotgun while some dude cowardly runs away while two guys burn her alive. Then we cut to our main character, the cop (can't remember his name), finds the cowardly dude crawling so he takes them to his wife's hospital (which is the hospital is on its last day) and soon weird things start to happen. Our main cop finds some chick killing some guy so the cop has to shoot her down. Then the state trooper comes to scold him but soon after they are attacked by the Triangle KKK and monsters are all over the hospital. My young self would love this movie! I enjoyed this movie immensely. There were no moments for bathroom breaks. Those two guys who burned that girl in the beginning eventually make their way into the hospital to find that cowardly dude and things get even better from there. There are even scenes that has a Resident Evil/mostly Silent Hill feel. They use this red lighting and imagery and the set had more of a feel of Silent Hill than the Silent Hill movies did. The creature effects were just amazing! They used practical effects and they deserve an award for it if they hadn't won any already. That doesn't mean the movie didn't have flaws. There were some awkward cuts like when the state trooper got dragged. One moment there's a monster rising behind him and the next moment he's been dragged off screen while the action is going on. Then that same monster attacks and all of the sudden the main cop dude is on the floor. Also, if you are prone to epilepsy and can't handle strobe lighting effects, then you will probably not be able to stomach this movie. Jeff threw up pretty bad after this movie finished. All and all, this is still one of the better horror films out there and I know most people hasn't heard of The Void and I hadn't either, but give it a chance and see for yourself. You might be surprised. However, be cautious, the blinking light effects will probably mess you up. |
