I can honestly say that if you suck at video games, like me, there is an easy setting if you want to see the story of this game. It is a weird one, I must say. It involves angels and demons, weird looking characters, and lots of enemies with giant faces. The game starts off around Christmas, and Bayonetta and her, I guess, sister Jeanne are out shopping while discount Joe Peschi (his name is Enzo) are out on the streets. Enzo will get on your nerves real quick with his forced Italian accent but luckily he isn't in this for very long. For some unknown reason they get attacked by jets with flying creatures all over it so Bayonetta and Jeanne hop on the jet and start fighting. Bayonetta can summon monsters to fight other monsters and one of them misbehaves and knocks Jeanne's soul out of her and she is dragged to hell. So now, Bayonetta must go to hell and back to retrieve her soul. Along the way, she meets up with a kid named Loki (a very overused name now) who she refers to as Little One and the two of them must get to the mountain. They keep getting sidetracked and some nasty villains are out to stop them. It is actually a very fun journey and I like how they try to mix the gameplay up a bit as you go along. Let's talk about the gameplay for a bit. You basically have to run through a linear setting, monsters come and a text screen usually introduce them and then you button mash (I high recommend evading all the time) and waste them as best as you can. In the end you will be graded with an overall grade at the end of the chapter. There are several chapters in the game, and it is pretty fun progressing through to see what happens next. I will say that the game gets weirder and weirder as you go along. There is also this other character in the game and I swear he serves almost no purpose to the story. His name is Luka. He's this cowboy guy who is more bumbling than everything else. He happens to know Bayonetta and they have a couple scenes together. Then he disappears through half of the game. I actually almost forgot about him. Personally, I think the game almost did because he shows up at the end, surprisingly, but he still ends up being a useless character despite being heroic in a sense. Honestly, I have no idea why this character is even in this game. Bayonetta 2 is a welcome addition to the small library of the ill-fated Wii U. There is a lot to enjoy in this game, and the graphics are absolutely amazing. It is a very linear experience and it is more story driven than anything else. However, I enjoyed it and I would love to see what is done in future installments. Hopefully Luka does something useful next time. |
