SILENT HILL 2 You play as James Sunderland and you get a letter from your dead wife to come to Silent Hill. Feeling like this is all normal stuff, James goes to Silent Hill and everything is trying to kill him. Though the plot is good, the game itself is a mixed bag for me. I keep coming across the same enemies and every time I beat a boss, they become an enemy too. Seriously, they become less frightening after I've seen them a hundred times. Not a bad game, and worth beating, but not as good as the stellar third installment.
SILENT HILL 3 I already covered this game already so I'm not going to get into too much detail here. The game stars a girl named Heather and she's stuck in a hellish mall. The thing is with this one is that there is a lot of imagination and a lot of cool ideas like the haunted house tour that uses real dead people and some red light that chases you. That was weird. Then you go into some rooms where some person hung himself, bodies covered in bloody blankets, and some demon that plays with dead women's bodies. If there was a good representation of hell, this game would be it.
SILENT HILL 4: THE ROOM Not to be confused with the movie of the same name (The Room) this one just sucked ass. I like the first person perspective when you are in your apartment. It gets crazy after a while and all of a sudden all this crap once to kill you. You'll even see shadows of children laughing. It's all very creepy and you can't get out because you are locked into there. The only way to get out is this hole that you must enter through which takes you to parts of Silent Hill and that's where the game falls apart. You get these ghosts that chase you and you can't kill them unless you get something later on. They're annoying. But then it turns into an escort mission and you have to haul around this woman away from this serial killer that's chasing you. Watch out, because if you leave her somewhere to check something out, you'll come back and she's getting shot at by said serial killer. That's what happened to me and stuff like that gives you the bad ending. I didn't care for this one.
SILENT HILL: HOMECOMING I don't remember too much of this game. It relied a lot of melee and your guy is trained at fighting because he's in the military. The game isn't nearly as scary as the previous ones (like part 3) and it was more of an action game than horror. It did copy the special effects from the movie, which I guess is cool, and for some reason Pyramid Head is in it. I forgot to mention Pyramid Head. He first appeared in Silent Hill 2 and people were crazy about this guy. He's basically an executioner. He turns up in this game too and in the movies. Total fan service. I didn't play Silent Hill: Downpour or Shattered Memories or any of the other Silent Hill games. I know it was a bummer that Silent Hills was cancelled but hopefully Konami will release it sometime in the future. I'm not a huge Silent Hill fan, but I hope the series will scare again.
