Keep in mind, these are just my traditional horror games and necessarily horror games, but good Halloween games to play. Dead Space is actually a pretty scary game that doesn't let up. Unfortunately because the general public is such pussies, they decided to make the series more action-oriented than horror in the later installments. Still, with a game that builds so much tension, and never know what's around the next corner, Dead Space is one of the best horror games out there.
4) ZOMBIES ATE MY NEIGHBORS
This one is great to play as a two player. The enemies you encounter is inventive too like killer dolls, clowns, and even a chainsaw dude coming at you. Heck, even the music and sound effects is iconic! With a weird title and addictive gameplay, I try to play this one every year. This year I can't because my retron is stupid and I broke the controller port on my Wii.
3) Splatterhouse/Addams Family (TurboCD)
I'm putting these two together. Both are for Turbografx with one being a Hu-Card and the other one CD. Both are also taking place in a haunted house. Splatterhouse received more kudos than Addams Family but I think if people put in that cheat for 79 lives in Addams Family, they might enjoy the game better. Both games are pretty dang hard but as far as Halloween goes, I think both captures the atmosphere.
2) CASTLEVANIA SERIES
It's hard to pick a favorite as they are all pretty good. Right now I'm working on Castlevania 3 and whenever I get around to it: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. My saved data got corrupted on that one and I'm pissed because I got very far. I'm more partial to Castlevania 4 and Rondo of Blood but I love going back to the very original Castlevania. Personally, I think Symphony of the Night would reign supreme for Halloween because I love the diversity of the enemies you face and the different ways that they die. The music even sets up the atmosphere too. Whatever way you go, you can't go wrong with Castlevania.
1) LUIGI'S MANSION
People were disappointed when this game launched with the Gamecube and I think its because it was the first time a Mario game wasn't being launched. However, as people got over it, the game received somewhat of a cult following. Heck, they even made a sequel on the 3DS. The best part about Luigi's Mansion is the atmosphere that it creates. Like this could be genuinely scary Mario game. You see these ghosts minding their own business and of course you have to find a way to suck them up with your vacuum. You kinda have to think in order to get some of these ghosts. I wish that it wasn't Mario that you have to save. Luigi really needs a woman of his own. However, if Nintendo is going the Disney route, I wouldn't be surprised if Luigi turns out to be gay.
