This may be the worst movie I have ever seen and that's saying something. I have seen things so truly awful, that even things bad to the public like Super Mario Bros the movie had redeeming value to me. Dahmer vs. Gacy was the worst movie I ever seen, but this one is battling at first. It is clearly obvious that the filmmakers don't respect the source material and this film is an utter embarassment to the franchise.
It's about the Addams Family being invited to some family reunion to find some cure for their grandparents who are turning normal. But they somehow end up with the Adams Family rather than their own family and it doesn't get any better from there.
I must admit I had to watch this dreck twice. I didn't pay attention the first time, so I divided as much attention as I can for my second viewing. The problem is that this film has nothing. It's just stuff happening. The only thing I really remember from the film was the overacting. Everyone in this film overacts to astronomical levels. I hear it was because they were paying homage to the classic TV series more than the comics whereas the movie paid homage to the latter. Still, I don't remember anyone being this hammy. I mean its ham glazed with cheese. The beginning of the movie will prove my point right away as a postal worker is being attacked by everything outside the Addams Family house. If that's not cringe-worthy, I don't know what is.
The only redeeming factor in this movie is Tim Curray but he's Tim Curray. That's like being attacked by a shit storm and Tim Curray is the only there to shield you from the onslaught. He's not as good as Gomez as the other two I mentioned, but he does a serviceable job. Daryl Hannah is ok but I really didn't care for the makeup job. I also missed the shadows they always put on Angelica Huston's Morticia where here the lighting department must have fallen asleep. Don't get me started on Wednesday and Pugsley. Actually yes I will. Christina Ricci's Wednesday never missed a beat. She was perfection. Watch the scene where in Addams Family Values where the camp forces her to smile. That performance where she builds up that smile is excellent. She deserves an award just for that alone.
I would love to discuss how every scene of the film doesn't work but here's the thing. I forgot most of the stuff that happened. I watched it last night and just earlier today and I can barely remember a single thing that happened. I can tell you that they at least tried to make another dance number in the movie, like the brilliant dance number in Addams Family Values. However, you can guess, it doesn't measure up. There's also this couple that stay at the Addams Family mansion as Granny torments them and they just overact to almost nausea.
As far as I'm concerned, this film never happened. I was curious for years on how this one turned out, I could have been curious to my death bed if I knew how truly awful this film was. It may be the worst film ever. It just may be.
